Professional Car Smoke Odor Removal & Deep Interior Cleaning Process

Smoke odor is one of the more difficult odors to remove from your interior. The nicotine and tobacco can trap itself inside the cloth fibers across your entire interior (in areas you can’t even see).

The two biggest factors to how much odor we can remove will come down to 1) how long it’s been smoked in and 2) how much it was smoked in.

The longer (and more intense) smoking that’s took place in the interior, the harder and longer it will take us reduce the odor to a satisfactory level. Unfortunately if it’s a severe condition of years of heavy smoking, our chances of removing 100% are extremely low.

At that point, we can definitely reduce the smoke odor, but to get rid of the smoke odor entirely, it would require you to replace some of the fabric material like the headliner, carpeting, and floor mats.

For any level of smoke odor, it will not be a quick 3-hour job like you’d find with our Full Interior Cleaning service. We require the vehicle to be dropped off at our location for a minimum of two days so we ensure the process is done correctly.

The goal of the service is to not mask the smoke odor with a fragrance or perfume. It’s to remove, reduce and eliminate the layer of nicotine and tobacco that’s left behind from smoking across your interior. This is the only way to ensure long term results. Once we deliver the car to you, we want to make sure the odor not coming back.

Fortunately, we have tackled some pretty heavy smoke odor vehicles over the last year and we’re completely confident in our process. We can setup a time and date for you to come by our location so we can inspect the interior and discuss the type of options we can produce for you.

There’s not many places in Washington that specialize in proper smoke odor removal. Simply shampooing or steaming the interior is not enough to greatly reduce or eliminate the odor.

If you just have a lingering odor because the interior hasn’t been cleaned in a while, perhaps our Full Interior Cleaning service is a better fit for your needs.

It is absolutely necessary you replace your cabin air filter with a new one. If you keep the old one in, even after we do the entire odor removal process, once you turn on your AC, all the trapped smoke odor in the filter will circulate right back into the interior.

Although it’s only a six-step process, it can take between 10 to 15 hours to completely finish the service. A majority of the time comes down to waiting for the Ozone treatment to be finish and air out so we can inspect it. If you want the smell gone this is the service you need.

Bryanz Professional 6-Step Smoke Odor Removal Process

We don’t mask odors - we eliminate them using a certified full interior deep extraction + ozone neutralization system. Here’s exactly how we do it:

Step 1- Full Interior Vacuum & Surface Prep

We start by vacuuming every surface, including carpet, seats, floor mats, trunk, and headliner. This removes loose ash, dust, and residue before the odor extraction begins.

Step 2 - Deep Cleaning of Plastics, Leather & Hard Surfaces

Using a specialized smoke odor enzyme cleaner, all interior plastics, leather, vinyl, and hidden areas are scrubbed and neutralized - including vents, door panels, dashboards, and tight crevices where smoke particles collect.

Step 3 - Hot Water Extraction of Fabrics & Upholstery

All fabric areas that absorb smoke — seats, carpet, floor mats, and headliner — are shampooed and professionally extracted using our hot water extractor and a tobacco specific cleaner to pull out odor-trapped residue at the fiber level.

Step 4 - Clean All Windows & Mirrors

Every interior window and mirror will be cleaned to remove smoke residue and leave a streak-free appearance

Step 5 - Completely Dry Interior

Before we can continue, the interior must be 100% dry. We’ll place 3 to 6 air movers across the interior to speed up the drying. Based on the condition, this vary greatly in time.

Step 6 - Ozone Treatment

With our commercial grade Ozone machine, we’ll run the treatment for 2 to 5 hours depending on the condition and repeat as needed until we’re satisfied with the results.

It’s absolutely necessary we replace your cabin air filter with a new one.

Notice: Due to the nature of the service, we require the vehicle to be dropped off at our shop location for at least 2 full days.

Smoke Odor Removal FAQs

Do you remove the seats and carpeting?

Yes - if the odor has penetrated into the seats, or under-seat areas, we remove seats to reach and extract trapped smoke residue properly. Most smoke odor jobs do not require full seat removal, but when tobacco, weed, or vape odor has settled deep into the vehicle structure, we take the interior apart as needed to guarantee full odor removal.

At Bryanz Auto Detailing, we don’t just clean the visible areas — we clean the places most detailers never touch, including under seat rails, and behind trim. This is why our odor removal is permanent and not a temporary cover-up like sprays or interior “refreshers”.

However, for many of the smoke odor removal jobs we’ve worked on, removing seats is not necessary. We have a variety of machines and brushes to get into the tight areas.

Can you guarantee the odor will be removed?

It really depends on the condition of the interior and the severity of the smoke odor. Our goal is always to remove as much as we can, and if possible, eliminate it altogether. If we do our entire smoke odor process and the odor comes back a few days or weeks later, at no extra charge, we’ll do another Ozone treatment.

Can you do this at my home or office location?

All smoke odor jobs will be done at our location. We do offer mobile detailing services, but due to the extensiveness of the cleaning, we no longer provide this service at the customers home location. The heat, rain, humidity, and debris that gets in the way while being outdoors makes it difficult to do the job properly.

On top of that, the job can take 10+ hours to complete. For the best results, we require you to drop off your vehicle at our shop for at least two days. This also applies for our Paint CorrectionCeramic Coating.

What products do you use?

We use a combination of enzyme cleaners, hot water extraction machine, steam and commercial-grade ozone generator — not store-bought deodorizing sprays. Every chemical and tool we use is selected for a single purpose: permanently neutralize and remove smoke odor, not cover it up.

At Bryanz Auto Detailing, we do not use “air freshener detail kits” or fragrance bombs. Our process is the same one used by professional restoration companies and automotive reconditioning specialist.

For odor removal, we use very specific products and equipment to neutralize, reduce, and eliminate smoke odor. This is not just using a generic degreaser or steam cleaner to clean the fabric surfaces. Each step we perform has a purpose to achieve our end goal.

Will I smell any chemicals once the service is complete?

No. Once the ozone and extraction process is complete and the vehicle is fully aired out, the interior will smell neutral and clean, not like the perform or chemicals. If you request a light scent after the process, we can add it — but most customers prefer a true zero-odor result.

If a shop makes your car smell like “cherry”, “new car scent”, it means they masked the odor instead of removing it.

This is one of the reasons why we require you to drop off the vehicle at our shop. The only way you won’t smell any of the cleaning process is if we give it enough time to air out. We expedite that process by placing multiple air-movers across the interior.

Can you remove every stain?

Due to the nature of stains and the material it’s on, some will come off better than others. We have extensive knowledge, experience, and use premium tools, products, and machines, but even with all that, if a stain has been there long enough, it can only be cleaned so much. Even then, Bryanz Auto Detailing uses advanced upholstery extraction, steam, and enzyme breakdown — far more effective than generic interior shampooing.
